In this my first blog, I will introduce a concept of what mysticism means to me, from a 21st century perspective.

My simple definition of mysticism is that it is the study of the mysteries concerning how a person’s body, mind, soul and spirit relate with the Universe.

The purpose of mystic studying is to enable the student to evolve physically, mentally and spiritually to reach a superior state of consciousness known as illumination.

We are well aware of body and mind, but soul and spirit will need clarification so that we share a coming understanding of those two terms when used in mystic parlance.
From the Bible, soul can be interpreted to be an agent or representative of God that shares life with a person from cradle to grave. Soul’s purpose is to guide its human partner to be a successful caretaker of planet Earth. But a person is free to choose whether to learn from soul or not. An issue arises as to whether soul is immortal or not, bible scholars are divided on that subject.

[Ref1:1Thessalonians 5:25 for soul and spirit.]

Spirit is the emotional comforting and life support energies given by the Holy Spirit to all living entities to keep them alive.

Rosicrucian use different names for the two terms soul and spirit, i.e., soul becomes soul-personality an agent of Universal Soul; while spirit remains as spirit plus other cosmic energies.

The Holy Spirit of the Bible’s divine trinity does not have a role in Rosicrucian philosophy.

[Ref2: Rosicrucian Manual (free PDF download on Internet) for soul-personality.]

In my next blog I will attempt to describe the beginning of the Universe based upon the current scientific evidence available from Internet sources such as Wikipedia.

Welcome to 21st Century Mysticism

Hello, my name is George, and I would like to share with you my interest in Mysticism. I'm an inactive Rosicrucian student of AMORC at present. After having learnt much about mysticism from them, my spiritual growth began to level off and I realised that the Holy Bible supplied the answers I was looking for to progress towards spiritual maturity. You will therefore find that the blogs for "21st Century Mysticism" lean heavily towards text from the Holy Bible.

Bearing in mind that the blogs I will be writing are from personal insights that are rather unorthodox as well, and this is very likely due to us being like the six blind men encountering the mystical elephant for the first time, and each of us will have a different perception of what an elephant is. But by sharing our views, a better overall understanding of mysticism can be obtained. After all, dogma and unyielding self-opinion is the worst enemy for progressing on the path to mystical illumination.

I made a start on this blog site circa November, 2020 but ran out of ideas that flowed smoothly. So from now on, I will offer simple ideas in no particular order but hopefully will all be insightful to you in the long run. Thank you very much for your interest in my blogs, and I sincerely hope we can progress across the realms of the Universe together.
All the very best wishes for successful travelling on the path to Illumination,

George.
